Washing the wool

On Sunday, we went to a Christmas craft & cookie fair in Puerto Octay. It was in an old barn which is part of the local museo.
Here is Emily learning how to spin wool.

A little gingerbread house

We bought these felted wool animals

So the next day Emily and I tackled the big job of washing our big bag of dirty wool
Here is a piece of the unwashed in the middle of the washed and drying wool

Here is all the wool from 3 sheep drying on our picnic table

The first rinse was in the sheep water tub
We used some dish detergent
Then a final rinse in a small pan
picking out bits of manure and sticks
and then a drying in the sun & wind
It has to be handled carefully so it doesn't turn into felt
I found a friend who is going to show us how to card and spin so that will be my next post!
